Best Vegan Schnitzel (made od Oatmeal)
These oatmeal schnitzels are the perfect comfort food: quick to prepare, low-cost and can easily be made gluten-free! Before you jump into the kitchen, I recommend you read this blog post carefully. The recipe is simple, but there are a few steps you need to follow.
Servings: 4 Schnitzel
- *200 g quick oats ((7 oz))
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp herb mixture rosemary sage, thyme
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 180 ml unsweetened soy milk warmed up ((6 fl oz))
- **150 g breadcrumbs ((5 oz))
- oil for frying
Mix oatmeal, garlic powder, herbs, mustard, paprika and salt in a bowl. Add the hot milk, stir and cover the bowl for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, stir well and form four equal-sized balls.
Put the breadcrumbs on a plate.
With the palm of your hand press the balls in the breadcrumbs to form 5 mm thick schnitzels.
Heat some vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan. When the oil is hot, add the schnitzels and fry on both sides until golden.
Place the schnitzels on a piece of baking paper and remove excess oil.
Serve with mayonnaise and vegan ketchup.
*For gluten-free schnitzels, use gluten-free oat flakes.
